With X-Factor and Strictly coming to world-wind, high octane season ends, future weekend viewing looks set to be much more sedate. Not that either show has been compulsory viewing in this house. Rather – we have actually caught very little of them and have only engaged with any hype insofar as it could not be escaped through other media coverage.
And neither will we manage to catch Strictly final next week (which I would actually be rather keen to do – now that we have a warm house to sit in!!!). But surely programme planners must realize that next weekend – the last before Christmas, I believe, – is set to be the busiest of the year for revellers? Those wild young things with whom I so readily identify(!!!!!) Ok ok – so those blessed with such youth or dexterity may well manage to programme their Sky Extra or other recording devices to allow for later viewing. That will obviously not be the case in this house (where, after all, we have just managed to have heating properly installed!!!)
So – are we to feel cast adrift from the rest of the nation when we miss out on what has become the national obsession? Sad, detached, inarticulate?? Clearly we’ll have to keep close tabs with results online to discourse critically/knowledgeably about performances. Clearly we need to allay any suspicions that disengaged fogeydom could have overtaken us.
For we are, truly, glam, exciting, charming, adventurous, charismatic, passionate, fascinating, sophisticated. Even though we have reached that uncertain age!!! Even though I have to persuade you of this!! Don’t you think that that describes the X-Factor anyway??
