Busy busy Sundays

Now that the registration fee is paid, the race is on to raise the sponsorship funds for our great adventure of 2012. Thus it was, that Sunday past, as the Sunday before that, found us in the great outdoors, car piled high with merchandise (???) setting up for another car boot sale. As this will probably be the pattern of the year to come, we have invested in some of the essential tools of the trade.

A flask. Coffee never goes amiss and sometimes can be difficult to access at boot sales.  Especially when one is acutely aware of the dangers of buying goods/rubbish from other vendors should one be so rash as to venture away from one’s own stall. Which would, of course, mark us out as very foolish virgins.

Clothes rails. Really useful even when there is no space in the car to fit them in! As it was, although we had especially purchased very pretty pink rails, in the end they were sacrificed to make way for the books, toys, pictures etc. A poor decision as they were certainly needed to hang the clothes up. Still – never let it be said we don’t learn from our mistakes!

Tables. Not yet purchased, but being urgently sought. Currently borrowing the most precious equipment of car booting (apart from the car, of course), we are constantly on the lookout for appropriate, easily transportable, furniture/display ware.

And we have been making a concerted effort to ensure that our stock is kept refreshed regularly, sorted and sifted, with all the useless ‘gifts’ removed and forwarded to  a recycling company.

Which all amounts to a sizable task.

Happily all this effort is not being made alone, by only one or two people. A number of us are involved, but, at this stage, I must recognize and honour one of our team in particular. That is the person who has sought sponsorship from everyone she knows, who has publicized her target far and near, but especially in work and press-ganged everyone into buying tickets for events, whether or not they had any intention to attend, buying raffle tickets for the expected

A happy find

prize draws during these events. She is the person who has hastened the arrival of our first thousand pounds for the hospice funds, who has inspired us with her enthusiasm and has dumbfounded us with her single-mindedness.

And not only that – she’s already fit to do some walking!

Who is this paragon???

What – do you think I’m going to tell you all that , to give you all the opportunity to poach our prize asset???? That’s where my selflessness ends!!!!

A Sunny Sunday Morning...

About xtrekki

OK - I've been doing this for almost a year now and have still not mastered the mysteries of blogging!! WHAT are widgets? What are tags? Where on the dashboard do I find them or an explanation of how I can get them to work for me? In other aspects of my life I am fairly sharp. I could certainly be advisor to Hercule Poirot in unraveling his most impenetrable of cases. So - why oh why can I not figure out how to manage this bloomin' blog???????

Having shared this post with the Prize asset and the Mulberry lady I must pass on their comments to you. Both commented (without prompting) on the spectacularly unflattering picture of the ‘glamorous assistant’. Both specified the repercussions which they would have inflicted on the photographer and blogger who posted this for general viewing! I have advised that this is a major trait/failing which has upset others in the past. Apart from that you make car booting sound like everyone’s aspirational Sunday pursuit. No mean feat!!

You are so dedicated, scarlettruby, you should probably have a power of veto! Mind you, the glamourous assistant looks professional, in charge, and immensely capable. And significantly more glam than I ever do on a Sunday morning 😉

I thought the glamorous assistant looked very glam in her shades amid all the stuff. But I did get very distracted by all of it in the foreground. I admit I enlarged the photo to see if there was anything I needed! On the table issue, a successful fundraiser of our acquaintance has used wallpaper pasting tables.

You did WHAT?? ENLARGED the photo???? How on earth……??? As for the wallpaper pasting table – we do have one such table, but it is very unsteady. The picnic tables appeared much more balanced and have been very easily transported (and stored, as they can be returned to their owner at the end of each weekend!)

Looking forward to hearing from you...often!
