A Right Royal Day…

Aaahhh – in just a few short hours a Prince of the Realm will be getting married!!! How romantic! How magical!! And what spectacle! (What expense?? Who cares? Doesn’t it keep the nation amused at a time of potential unrest and actual economic fragility??)

I was (naturally) listening to the radio on the way home from work tonight and was listening to interviews with people who have been sleeping out for the past two nights in order to secure the best possible views of the Royal couple and their passing retinue as they file into the Abbey. These include a seventeen year old boy who has gone by himself to stake his spot by the door! Have these folks been told that TV cameras will be there all day?? Don’t they know that they will get much better views if they stay at home in front of their sixty inch flat screens? Does that boy’s mother know what he’s up to???? And – should Social Services be involved in his care??

But at least William demonstrated his understanding of the Great British psyche and his desire to be a People’s Prince early on in the preparations. He arranged for the Day to be an extra Bank Holiday!! For which I, for one, will thank him mightily!!! He is probably too young, too enthusiastic and too wedded to his job to realize the relief that even one additional day off can bring to the jaded, over-worked and under-resourced mass of his future citizens/subjects. But I can assure him of my gratitude for his forethought!

Having said that – I wll probably be one of the few who will not be glued to the screen, analysing/scrutinizing/criticizing the style. I will, indeed, be one of the army of on-call workers, sacrificing the opportunity to watch history unfolding (job number two).

How lucky am I to have a legitimate excuse to avoid the Royal Fawn-Fest in store for us all tomorrow!!! And – in years to come – I will still be able to remember where I spent the auspicious, Historic Day!

For those of you planning your day around the Event (and the follow-up blog-fest) – enjoy!!! Hoping that the weather stays good for your street party!

About xtrekki

OK - I've been doing this for almost a year now and have still not mastered the mysteries of blogging!! WHAT are widgets? What are tags? Where on the dashboard do I find them or an explanation of how I can get them to work for me? In other aspects of my life I am fairly sharp. I could certainly be advisor to Hercule Poirot in unraveling his most impenetrable of cases. So - why oh why can I not figure out how to manage this bloomin' blog???????
